Audrey Aristeo

about

Hi, I'm Audrey! I am an artist of books, prints, and anxious little drawings.Much of my work deals with the relationship with the self, inner roiling, and recapturing the creative honesty and thought-freedom of childhood.I also work with the idea of place, and how places are transformed by time. Mundane histories fascinate me. This can be seen in my paintings of colonial-era cemeteries, prints of Dogtown in Gloucester, MA, and my most recent audio-visual work focused on a corner-lot in North Adams, MA.I graduated with a BFA in Book Arts from Montserrat College of Art in 2022.

dogtown project

Click to enlarge. To be viewed in order. This is a small part of the edition of linocut + letterpress prints I created reflecting on Dogtown, a historic site in the center of Cape Ann, MA.The full poem reads:
memory is held / a place is made of memory / no dogs / no town / just these roads and this feeling / unshakeable

playing cards - historical book structures

My deck of relief printed playing cards based on historical book structures is to be separated by suit and the type of book represented. Here, the suit of Hearts is the Palm Leaf Book, and the number cards show examples of the book type while the face cards show steps in the process of making one! Someday I will finish the deck.

music - in progress

this is the most recent addition to my website, as I only began making music in the last year; bear with me while I develop it.
